Tourism research has recently been informed by non-representational theories to highlight the socio-material, embodied and heterogeneous composition of tourist experiences. These advances have contributed to further reflexivity and called for novel ways to animate representations. On this background, this article develops the notion ‘distorted representation’ to illustrate that blurred and obscure photos can in fact be intelligible and sensible in understanding tourism. Through an exploration of the overwhelmed and unintended practices of visual fieldwork, distorted representation illustrates how photographic materialities, performativities and sensations contribute to new tourism knowledges. While highlighting the potential of distorted representation, the article posits a cautionary note in regards to the influential role of academic journals in determining the qualities of visual data. The article exemplifies distorted representation through three impressionistic tales derived from ethnographic research on the European rail travel phenomenon: interrail.  相似文献

This paper explores the visual representations used to illustrate, promote and communicate a particular idea of heritage in the tourism literature, which provides an instance within which to examine the material consequences of a dominant discourse. This examination takes place within the context of current New Labour policy initiatives, which have put forward a new role for heritage, both in terms of the touristic experiences it can provide and as an instrumental tool for social inclusion and civic engagement. It is argued in this paper that these consciously designed objectives have also opened up a conceptual space within which images of heritage are drawn upon to undertake a course of ideological work that affectively reaffirms and legitimizes the cultural symbols of an elite social group as a consensual representation of national heritage.  相似文献

The development of rural tourism and tourism to protected areas relies heavily on visitors' appreciation of scenery. This paper assesses visitor responses to Taiwan's changing rural landscapes, which have experienced agricultural decline, and a government-aided shift to rural tourism, with landscapes rapidly transformed from farm production scenery to recreation-oriented scenery. The study describes the changing character of the visual landscape characteristics of the Dongshan River Basin in Yilan County, and the influence of those changes on visitors' landscape preferences. Using a recognized nine landscape characteristics typology, survey results indicated participants believed that agricultural landscapes represented the qualities of historicity, naturalness and ephemera more than tourist landscapes, but showed fewer qualities of stewardship, disturbance and visual scale than tourist landscapes. Participants did not perceive the two types of landscapes differently for their qualities of coherence, imageability and complexity. They also preferred tourist landscapes to agricultural landscapes. For agricultural landscapes, when the qualities of ephemera, coherence, imageability, complexity, visual scale, stewardship, naturalness and historicity increased, participants appreciated the landscapes more. However, as the quality of disturbance increased, participants appreciated both landscapes less. Overall, when ephemera, coherence, imageability, complexity, visual scale, stewardship and naturalness increased, participants liked the landscapes more.  相似文献

Individuals often expect to recover from the fatigue of their regular lives when they engage in tourism activities. However, the intangible features of the service lead to the tourist hotels must identify associated physical clues to include in marketing pictures. Those pictures should attract the attention of these pressured customers and influence their accommodation decisions. Based on attention restoration theory, this study used eye-tracking analysis and questionnaires to investigate the influence of images of natural and built hotel scenes on visual attention and assessments of the hotel’s restorative quality. This study used 24 marketing images from a hotel as the experimental stimulus, and 80 participants with an average age of 55 years participated in the experiments. Empirical results suggest that visual clues in hotel marketing pictures can influence customers’ visual behaviour and assessments of restorative quality. In particular, images of natural scenes may attract more visual attention than those of built scenes, and natural scenes may also signal higher restorative quality to potential customers.  相似文献

城市治理作为国家治理体系的重要组成部分,推进城市治理现代化是实现国家治理现代化的重要突破口。为深入剖析城市治理研究的热点主题及发展趋势,借助CiteSpace可视化文献分析软件,对中国知网收录的820篇城市治理核心文献进行分析。结果表明:国内城市治理研究发文量呈现逐年递增趋势,研究作者与机构较多,但合作程度相对较低;研究热点关键词主要集中在城市治理、社区治理、协同治理、公众参与、大数据等方面;热点主题主要围绕城市治理价值意蕴、运行模式、体系建构以及推进路径4个方面展开;研究前沿趋势集中在政府治理、治理模式、人工智能、党建引领等方面。基于以上分析,围绕研究力量、研究内容以及研究方法提出未来改进方向。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to examine the vulnerability perceived by blind consumers in the marketplace. By analysing the narratives of 16 people that have acquired blindness, we develop an understanding of the internal and external factors that affect their degree of vulnerability and identify their coping strategies. Data analysis consisted of content interpretation and a search for the meaning of the particular experiences, events and states reported by the respondents. Results show how emotional well-being, consumption-facilitating social support, acceptance, autonomy and perceptions about marketplace difficulties all relate to coping mechanisms.  相似文献
